Embrassing a new adventure, Encaustic Wax. This is a process, whereby you overlay and paint with beeswax mixed with damar resin. After creating your deisgn the wax allows you to continue to change your oil paint applications. You can scratch the wax for mark making, apply different paint mediums, textures and the process continues.

Here I have created a little bank along a forest stream, highlighting reeds, tree bark and greenery, just like you would find if you sat and relaxed, taking in all that surrounds you. I used real twigs to create the crevices before covering with encaustic oil paints, and, used my fingers to smear over the background colours. I have called this painting Tranquility.

I applied a plain watercolour paper substraint, fixed firmly to a heavy bathroom tile. I then applied five coats of white coloured wax before then applying coloured oil paints to create this lovely scene. I love the beauty of the blue and greens together and the way you are drawn into the painting towards the back of the stream. An ideal gift for someone special.
